Heres a quick run down on what youll get when you book a food forest evaluation, or a banana or other tropical fruit orchard session.
Backgroud.
We have experience in helping many farms convert from dairy or other plants to start growing tropicals. With a background of a Forest ecology, and ecolocial restoration Auckland university degree, many years of business development management, and successfully running our own company, we stand with you while we develop your plan or dream together.
The food forest evaluation takes a holistic approach, factoring in aspects such as soil type, what has grown there before, what is currently growing there, and what you would like to see growing there in the future.
Some species are best suited to full sun, whilst others do best in part shade or companion planted alongside others. We work with you to identify what will work for you, depending on your availability, time, experience and desired outcomes.
One client ended up with 6 species of wetland native plants alongside 14 species of subtropicals and tropicals to create a unique blend of natives and introduced species that incorporated a love for the restored wetland and the taste of the tropics they wanted for their Northland paradise.
Another client wanted to change from growing a labour intensive species that produced small fruit , to a higher value fruit, which was much more uncommon.
We have also helped a client reduce their lifesyle block from an oversized lawn that required constant mowing , to a fully functional - but small Banana plantation - producing about 3-4 ton of Organic bananas per year.
